Minidoka NHS Visitor Center Opens for the Summer!

By Kurt Ikeda, Director of Interpretation and Education, Minidoka National Historic Site

Minidoka National Historic Site is happy to welcome visitors, from near and far, back to the visitor center for the 2023 summer season! On Friday, May 26, the visitor center will be open for summer hours: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. MT.

The visitor center offers visitor information, museum exhibits, a 30-minute park film, and a small bookstore. Visitors may enjoy a self-guided walking tour on the 1.6 miles (2.5 km) gravel trail from sunrise to sunset.

Public tours are available during the summer season only. Park ranger-led tours of the site are offered on Saturdays and Sundays at 11 a.m. when the visitor center is open. Tours are free and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Tours last approximately 1.5 hours. Bring water, sun protection, and comfortable walking shoes.

An afterhours box for brochures and the passport stamp is available across from the visitor center.

Restrooms are not available when the visitor center is closed.

In case you missed it! We invite visitors to enjoy our updated 25 outdoor wayside exhibits on our 1.6-mile walking trail. Installed at the end of the 2022 summer season, these updated waysides feature updated terminology, newly digitized photos, and highlight the personal experiences of incarcerees.

Minidoka National Historic Site is located at 1428 Hunt Road in Jerome, Idaho— twenty miles northeast of Twin Falls, Idaho. Admission is free.
