Not Your Model Minority Film Screening

  • Museum of Idaho 200 North Eastern Avenue Idaho Falls, ID, 83402 United States (map)

Join us for a screening of the award-winning documentary Not Your Model Minority, featuring a post-screening discussion with filmmaker Jon Osaki, Lisa Shiosaki Olsen, and Jon Ochi.

Jon Osaki is an award-winning filmmaker and longtime social justice activist who uses storytelling to educate, organize, and inspire action. This event is a meaningful opportunity for people of all backgrounds to reflect upon the shared responsibility of dismantling prejudice and creating a more equitable society.

Not Your Model Minority explores the many ways the model minority myth has been used to create a wedge between communities of color and perpetuate divisive narratives. By exploring the origins of the myth and its intersections with past and present anti-Asian violence, the film reveals opportunities to build power and make progress toward addressing systemic racism in America.

Not Your Model Minority lifts up difficult and uncomfortable issues that Asian Americans must reckon with as we seek the promise of America and acknowledge all the work that must be done within our own communities,” says Osaki.
Not Your Model Minority runs approximately 30 minutes; the post-film discussion will immediately follow the screening. This event is sponsored by Friends of Minidoka, Minidoka National Historic Site, Idaho Falls JACL, and the Museum of Idaho.

Doors open at 6:30 pm; program begins at 7 pm. The screening is free to the public, but registration is required.
