The Robert C. Sims Collection at Boise State University Pocatello-Blackfoot JACL Recipes

The Robert C. Sims Collection at Boise State University

Over the past few years, Friends of Minidoka Graduate Fellow Camille Daw digitized a portion of the Robert C. Sims Collection and created a finding guide for researchers. She will periodically highlight items from the Sims Collections in our newsletter.

Pocatello-Blackfoot JACL Recipes

After World War II, the Pocatello-Blackfoot Japanese American Citizens League started the tradition of an annual Chow Mein dinner every November. The Pocatello-Blackfoot JACL hosted several events throughout the year, but the Chow Mein dinner remained a hit.

According to historic newsletters available in the Robert C. Sims collection at Boise State University’s Special Collections and Archives, the Pocatello-Blackfoot JACL also published recipes from members. Some of the recipes were more traditional Japanese recipes while others offered savory “cowboy” soups. Check out the recipes below and let us know which is your favorite!
