Join Friends of Minidoka and the Albertsons Library at Boise State University for a Community Read of Facing the Mountain by Daniel James Brown. This partnership on a community read aims to highlight the Go For Broke Spirit exhibition of Shane Sato’s photographs at Boise State University from November 2nd, 2023 - February 18, 2024.

Interested in joining the conversation? The Albertsons Library will host a panel discussion of the book’s content with community members, scholars, and archivists on February 7, 2024 at Albertsons Library from 6-8 p.m. Panelists include National Japanese American Historical Society Collections Manager Lilith Benjamin, Boise State Military History Professor Dr. David Walker, and Friends of Minidoka Program and Outreach Manager Camille Daw.
About the Book: Author of Boys in the Boat, tells the compelling story of the Japanese American men who bravely served in the United States Armed Forces during World War II despite being incarcerated in concentration camps throughout the United States. Facing the Mountain also highlights the patriotism of those such as Gordon Hirabayashi, who stood up to the United States in the face of racism, fighting for his citizenship.
