Peek in the Park: Life in the Barracks
Barracks offered little to no privacy. As partitions reached to the rafters, insteading of extending to the ceiling, noisy and nosy children often peaked over into their neighbor’s rooms. In addition to the lack of alone time, stress also made finding a partner difficult. Many individuals focused on getting through the trauma of confinement – and getting out of Minidoka. Finding a partner or beginning a new romance was the least of their worries. The inside of the barracks today show the walls that many new couples found gave them few options and opportunities to spend time alone.
