Survivor/Descendant Reflections: Wedding and Romance Oral Histories

Hear from survivors about their experience- Isami Nakao and Kazuko Nakao were married at Minidoka concentration camp. The couple received a day pass to leave Minidoka for Twin Falls. Their clothing and fabric came from the Sears & Roebuck catalog, and they only managed to leave for enough time to marry. Isami and Kazuko’s honeymoon consisted of a chicken dinner and a one night stay in Twin Falls. However, their love withstood the test of time as the couple remained married for decades.

Tad Kuniyuki recalled leaving Minidoka to get married in Twin Falls, then boarding a train for Spokane to visit with her parents. Upon his arrival back at Minidoka with his wife, the couple were reprimanded for leaving longer than permitted according to their leave permit.  Watch the full interview below!
